Earlier, flash flooding and tornadoes killed three people in Arkansas as powerful storms swept through the nation's midsection, including a local sheriff who drowned while checking on residents whose house was eventually swamped by rising water, authorities said Friday. Three other people are missing.

The storms rolled across the region overnight, and more bad weather was poised to strike Friday, with tornadoes and baseball-sized hail forecast from Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. Flooding also is a concern in parts of Missouri, Iowa and Illinois through Sunday.

Torrential rain, including at least 6 inches in the rugged terrain of western Arkansas, posed the greatest danger the night before. In Y City, about 125 miles west of Little Rock, the Fourche La Fave River rose 24 feet in just 24 hours.

"The water just comes off that hill like someone is pouring a bucket in there," said Danny Straessle, spokesman for the Arkansas Department of Highway and Transportation. "This was an incredible amount of water."

OKLAHOMA CITY Tornadoes rolled in from the prairie and slammed Oklahoma City and its suburbs Friday, trapping people in their vehicles as a storm swept down an interstate highway while commuters tried to beat it home.

A mother and her baby were killed, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The Associated Press, citing the Oklahoma medical examiner's office, reported that five people were killed from the tornadoes. CBS News tried contacting the medical examiner's office Friday evening, but the calls went unanswered.

Meteorologists who had warned about particularly nasty weather said the storm's fury didn't match that of a deadly twister that struck suburban Moore last week. Violent weather also moved through the St. Louis area, ripping the roof off a suburban casino.

About 50 people were hurt, five critically, hospital officials said. Newson6.com reported that

Friday's broad storm hit during the evening rush hour and stuck around, causing havoc on Interstate 40, a major artery connecting suburbs east and west of the city, and dropping so much rain on the area that streets were flooded to a depth of 4 feet.

To the south, a severe storm with winds approaching 80 mph rolled into Moore, where a top-of-the-scale EF5 tornado killed 24 on May 20.

Rick Smith, the warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service at Norman, said that while the storm packed a powerful punch, it wasn't as strong as the Moore tornado.

"This storm had everything you could handle at one time: tornadoes, hail, lightning, heavy rain, people clogging the highways," Smith said.

My friends would be surprised to know that I: Have a serious fear of heights. It even makes me nervous to watch movies that have scenes with people on tall buildings, mountains, etc. I once had to do a “trust fall” in high school and I felt like I was going to have a heart attack.

The top three items on my bucket list: 

1)    Skydiving, to hopefully cure my fear of heights

2)    Travel the world

3)    Do mission work in Africa

The most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to me during a game: One time I was running across the court to throw a t-shirt into the crowd, and I tripped and almost face planted. Luckily I caught myself before I hit the ground, but my stumble definitely didn’t go unnoticed. My face turned bright red and I tried to act like nothing happened, but multiple people came up to me after the game to tell me how funny I looked.

My favorite app: Instagram! I am obsessed with pictures, so I love being able to put different filters on them.

My celebrity crush: Leonardo DiCaprio. That man stole my heart in Titanic and hasn’t let me down since. I talked to him once on the beach in Cabo and it was probably the best day of my life. He is just as beautiful in person as he is in the movies!

My worst date: This guy I had been hanging out with asked me to come over for dinner at his house. I didn’t like him more than a friend and thought he was having a group of people over for dinner, so I agreed to stop by. When I walked into his house, he had made a nice dinner for two, with candles and everything. I felt so awkward—I wasn’t expecting the night to turn into a date! So I went to his roommate’s room and made him come eat with us. The guy wasn’t too happy about his roommate sitting in on our “romantic” dinner. Needless to say, he didn’t ask me out again ☺.

Three people I’d like to have dinner with (living or dead): Beyonce, Katy Perry, and Denzel Washington. I am obsessed with the music and performance ability of Beyonce and Katy, and Denzel is my all-time favorite actor.

My favorite people to follow on Twitter: A friend and I are obsessed with a fake Bill Nye account called @yaboybillnye. I’m pretty sure we’re the only two people that die laughing at his tweets.

The coolest people who follow me on Twitter:  I guess the most interesting person is Johnny Manziel—or as most people know him, Johnny Football.

If I had to watch one movie or TV show over and over, it would be:  Duck Dynasty. It’s one of the few TV shows guaranteed to make me laugh out loud every episode.

If you looked at the “most played” songs on my iPod, you’d see a lot of: Variety. I love hip hop, country, pop, and acoustic music.

My worst habit: Biting my nails, especially when I am stressed out. You can always tell when I have a round of tests, because my nails look terrible.

The talent I’d most like to have: Singing. I like to act like I’m a good singer and obnoxiously belt out my favorite songs, but it’s usually painful to hear.

 My favorite professional team: Dallas Cowboys. Even though they’re going through a rough patch right now, I love football and I have to support my home team. I would much rather watch my Aggies play over any pro team, though!

My one guilty pleasure: A PAZOOKIE. It’s a giant chocolate chip cookie with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It tastes like heaven.

I’d want my last meal to be: Chicken Fajitas. I love Mexican food!

The Ohio State Buckeyes football cheerleading team

The Ohio State Buckeyes football team is an intercollegiate varsity sports team of The Ohio State University. The team is a member of the Big Ten Conference of the National Collegiate Atletic Association (NCAA), playing at the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) level. The team nickname is derived from the state tree of Ohio. The Buckeyes have played their home games in Ohio Stadium since 1922.

 Recent bad news for Ohio State Football Team:
At the bottom of the stunning resignation letter that he carefully typed in his office on Monday morning, in the last lines above his characteristically neat and clear signature, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel closed with a personal note.
"We know that God has a plan for us and we will be fine," he wrote, referring to himself and his wife, Ellen.
"We will be Buckeyes forever."
But no longer will he be the Buckeyes coach.
